The Māori Language Commission
Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori | The Māori Language Commission was established under the Māori Language Act 1987 to promote the use of Māori as a living language and as an ordinary means of communication. We collaborated with Te Taura Whiri to rework their brand and website.
Goal
Develop an intuitive online experience that engages and informs users about the Te Taura Whiri and its services.
Approach
UX Research and Design Discovery
We undertook a discovery phase, conducting
- Interviews with stakeholders and users across different audience segments (educators, community groups, businesses, and individuals).
- A survey reaching 157 organisations and 1,711 individuals to assess user needs and expectations.
From this research, we developed user personas, audience segmentation and journey maps to understand and help us refine current users' experiences. We also conducted a card sort to help categorise the enormous amount of information and help improve its current information architecture. The website design underwent through a refresh based on new existing guidelines and Māori patterns that were implemented.
Solution
The new website has helped Te Taura Whiri with analytics to understand audience engagement, monitor trends, and optimise the it’s effectiveness over time.
